We talk a lot about parenting, school life and nursery life at Stamptastic. We’re in this phase ourselves as parents of young children and know how intense it can be! We’re passionate about making the lives of families easier by using our personalised name stamps for clothing, so losing uniforms, PE bags and more is one stress you’re less likely to deal with.
As a business firmly rooted in the formative years of nursery and schooling, though, we feel that solidarity only goes so far. We want to put efforts into giving something back to all children in the UK, by going beyond creating a family-friendly product. That’s why we’re excited to announce our latest charity partnership with Schoolreaders!
Who are Schoolreaders exactly? Let’s hear it from them:
“1 in 4 primary school children in England fail to reach the expected standard of reading by the age of 11. This leaves them unable to access their secondary education fully, which will have life-long consequences.
Schoolreaders recruits, places and supports volunteers to go to local primary schools and provide free, weekly, one-to-one reading support for children, prioritising those most disadvantaged."

Why did we choose Schoolreaders? A myriad of reasons. Reading is power and reading is agency, particularly for our most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. This is echoed in the UK National Curriculum guidance for English:
“All the skills of language are essential to participating fully as a member of society; pupils who do not learn to speak, read and write fluently and confidently are effectively disenfranchised.”
For many children, additional support is needed to access this fluency and confidence - and with Schoolreaders, those at most risk of becoming disadvantaged through poor literacy get a well needed boost. Schoolreaders note that “just 10 minutes a week with one of our volunteers has been shown to improve children’s reading fluency, comprehension and enjoyment”. That’s something we want to get behind.
