One Small Step is much more than a children’s shoe shop; it is our way to make a difference, in the beautiful spa town of Buxton and beyond. A child’s first pair of shoes is a significant milestone for proud parents, we help look after these delicate feet to ensure best fit, offering practical, comfortable shoes with a bit of colour, fun and fashion thrown in! We strive to source high quality and durable shoes that are offered to customers with a first class personal and professional service. We are very much part of the local community, being the only choice for quality footwear for many families in and around Buxton. We have a few mums, dads and even granny’s who regularly shop with us. Our shoes are for everyone not just little ones.
The shop started from a desire to provide a genuine alternative to the big high street brands. There was a limited choice of footwear available in terms of style, brand and colour for children, from school shoes, pre-walkers, wellies, durable winter boots as well as sandals and trainers. Over time our little shop has grown to include a website so we can sell within the UK and internationally. We are very much part of the local community, regularly getting involved in the annual Buxton carnival and Town Team events.
We have in the past couple of months opened our own little free library in the shop, providing a book swap service in the community. We have baby, children and teenage books available as well as a good selection of adult titles. This initiative has proved so popular we are starting a One Small Step monthly book club!
We stock the increasingly popular Salt Water Sandals in a range of colours and sizes and from September will also be a stockist of the beautiful Petasil shoes. Our customers are at the forefront of what we do, we listen to what styles, brands and colours they would like to see and where possible get these in.
Our fabulous stamp from Stamptastic is used for our customer loyalty cards, replacing our old one which seemed to grow legs! We also use it in our little free library books to identify where they came from as well as any parcels and correspondence we send out. Thank you to Stamptastic for this, it is amazing!
