Starting School Free Resource: Gross Motor Skills Activity Card
If you have a child starting 'big school' in September you may have heard about Gross Motor Skills.
A motor skill is simply an action that involves using muscles, gross motor skills are movements using larger muscles. Children need to develop gross motor skills so that they can navigate the classroom effectively and participate in the range of activities on offer in a busy reception class.
TOP TIPS Success is important therefore begin by breaking the process into small steps. Use games to develop skills. Introduce language related to gross motor skills (walking, running, jumping, climbing, balance, strength). Let children work within their limits. Add an element of challenge to maintain children’s interest.
