Here we are again! It might feel like you’ve just got back into the swing of the school or nursery term, but we’re back with the February half term. This mid-winter break is a welcome rest from the bustle for some - while other fair weather folk might be dreading it! Whether you’re excited or daunted, we’ve put together some of our top ideas for ways to make family memories this break - or at least keep the kids entertained!
Look locally
A great start when working out what to do with kids this half term is by starting local. We’re big fans of The Club Hub, which collects together kids clubs, activities, events and activities in your local area. Whether you’re after a stay and play, shared activity for the family, or a session offering specific childcare, it offers a great range of options, all in one spot!
Winter nature walks
Quick, easy, and of course free, February is a great time to explore your local area with a wintery nature walk. It might seem a cold time for British wildlife, but you’d be surprised how many wonderful creatures and plants you’ll be able to spot at this time of year. Check out the RSPB to see what nature has in store for February in terms of UK birds, and The Woodland Trust for what to spot, as well as events going on, in your local forests.
Museums
A great option for the colder weather, February half term is the perfect opportunity to explore museums local to you. Many will have special offers, free days and interesting exhibitions in line with the school holidays near you. If you’re near London we love the Young V&A, perfectly designed for young families with accessibility at the heart of all exhibits. Older children might enjoy The Science Museum too! Scottish friends might also enjoy The Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh. If going further afield doesn’t suit, take a look at museums local to you, like transport museums, art galleries and local history museums, which typically put on special events around the school holidays.
National Trust trips
We’d be remiss not to mention the classic family day trip - a National Trust property. You can head to the National Trust website for their full run down of what’s on in February, though our highlights so far include a Bird Spotting Trail in Staffordshire, a sensory winter walk in Altrincham, a watery frog lake trail in Wiltshire, and indoor crazy golf in Suffolk! With so many free activities for members, and frequent free tickets popping up for properties across the UK, these are a great option to get kids moving, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying British heritage.
Good luck for next term!
If you know us by now, you’ll know we love getting organised - so we can’t miss recommending getting any new uniform, shoes or kit ready for next term with our personalised name stamps. We hope you make some memories, get a little rest, and stay warm this chilly half term!
